Why can’t you steal from an unmanned retail cabinet?

Have you ever used an unmanned retail cabinet? Compared with the ancient unmanned vending machines, unmanned retail cabinets will no longer have the embarrassment of “paying for money and not shipping”. With the new unmanned retail cabinet, you only need to scan the code to open the door, take out the items, and then close the cabinet door, and the system will automatically settle the price.

In an unmanned retail cabinet (also called an unmanned snack bar), there will be 20 boxes of milk, 20 bottles of juice, 25 cans of coffee and 40 cans of soda, and maybe 5 boxes of instant noodles and 10 bags of cakes. These add up to a rough calculation of seven or eight hundred dollars, but the maintenance personnel can rest assured and let the small sales cabinet “manage” these commodities alone.

Is there any way to “deceive” the unmanned store and take away the goods in the cabinet for free?

Take it directly?

Each product has an “ID card”

When you take out the goods from the small vending cabinet, you will find that there is a long label attached to the item; through the light, there seems to be a “circuit” in the label. This is the “identity card” of each item.

The usual RFID system includes readers, electronic tags and application systems. Whenever you take away the goods, the RFID reader in the cabinet will send out a signal of a specific frequency, and the tags on each item receive the signal, part of which is converted into DC current to activate the tag, and then the tag will send its own data information. Feedback to the reader to complete commodity statistics. The system knows what you took away by counting the number of tags you have reduced.

tear off the label?

Let me count how much!

Although the RFID tag is convenient, if you tear off the RFID tag on the product and put it back in the small store, won’t the store be able to find out anything?

This way of using RFID tags is not detecting objects, but judging tags. Therefore, in the early days, the unmanned counters that only used RFID tags were stolen many times, and the loss rate of some small counters was even higher.

In addition to being easily torn off, the cost of RFID equipment is also relatively high. Although the price of RFID tags has dropped to 0.4 yuan each, each item needs to be affixed with RFID tags, and the extra cost is not a small amount.

In order to solve the problem of RFID and realize the direct judgment of the objects in the cabinet, a new method appeared in the small vending cabinet – weight detection. Every time you take an item and close the cabinet door, the weight sensor in the small vending cabinet will detect the weight of the current item, and calculate the difference between the weight before the door and the door, so as to realize the judgment of the removed item.

Obviously, once there are multiple commodities in the cabinet with similar weights, or the combined weights are similar, this method of simply measuring the weight is difficult to work. Therefore, many small vending cabinets use the double detection method of RFID + weight detection to ensure that accurate judgment.

If you take a bag of 300 grams of stones, open the cabinet door, take out a cup of Fat House Happy Water, tear off the label, and put it on the bag of stones and put it in the cabinet, then you will have a free cup of Fat House Happy Water…

In this way, the processor in the small selling cabinet needs to process multiple photos, which has higher requirements on the processing speed of the system. Therefore, it often happens that the mobile phone has been waiting on the checkout page after the purchase.

Some people will complain that the items in the small sales cabinet will be more expensive than normal store purchases. The distribution of small vending cabinets is relatively scattered. Compared with stores, more manpower is required to supplement and maintain goods. At the same time, compared with old-fashioned vending machines, it has higher equipment and technical costs. When you experience the convenience of a small selling cabinet, some extra money can be regarded as paying for the time saved
