5G-enabled glass antenna developed by Nippon Electric Glass
The company strives to seize the need to expand the 5G communication area and accelerate the commercialization of glass antennas. It is reported that the developed antenna uses the world’s smallest glass substrate with a “relative dielectric constant” (a lower value means less attenuation of radio waves). Since it is transparent, it can be installed without affecting the landscape of buildings and the design of cars.
Nippon Electric Glass has also developed a radio wave relay device made of glass material, which can be installed on the wall to realize radio wave communication between indoor and outdoor, and change the direction of radio waves. Compared with mainstream resin materials, etc., it has advantages such as less deterioration due to ultraviolet rays.
According to reports, recently, the Japanese government proposed a basic policy draft of the “Digital Garden City National Concept”. The draft pointed out that by the end of 2023, the population coverage of the 5G mobile communication system network will be increased to 95%, and by the end of 2027, high-speed Internet communication can be carried out. 99.9% of households are covered by fiber optic lines.
